Software Recommendations

Some neat programs for your enjoyment. All are free. I use all of these on a regular or semi-regular basis and think they are awesome enough to be featured here.


Programs for Windows

  • FreeCam: screen recorder
  • Krita: free drawing/painting software
  • MPC-BE: great video player with support multiple audio tracks, subtitles, etc.
  • Notion: amazing note-taking tool, i use it for uni
  • Plex / Plex Media Server: stream video files stored on your pc from any other device (including TV!)
  • ScreenToGif: record your screen and easily turn it into a gif, has basic gif editing features
  • TeamViewer: remotely control your own or a friend's pc
  • Voicemeter: audio mixer, makes it possible to connext 2 bluetooth earbuds/headphones to one device at the same time
  • VSCode: the best editor for coding

regarding files:

  • Bulk Rename Utility: quickly change multiple file/folder names at once
  • Calibre: e-book manager
  • FreeFileSync: great tool for backups (it automatically detects differences between two folders and only updates what is necessary)
  • HandBrake: convert video files (file type, quality, etc)
  • TreeSize Free: quickly see which folders/files on your pc take up the most space

Firefox Add-ons

Some/Most of these are probably also available for other Browsers.


Android Apps

Some/Most of these are probably also available for iOS.

  • AutoDesk Sketchbook: best drawing app
  • Brave Browser: great, secure browser; good for streaming sites
  • Bring: shopping list app with great features such as autmatic icons, reordering of categories, and syncing with others
  • PureWriter: my favorite writing app
  • Remini: make low-quality pictures higher-quality
  • Smart AudioBook Player: the best player for audiobooks you have stored as files, has many features
  • Via Browser: great minimalistic browser
  • Zedge: great app to find custom ringtones and notification sounds (e.g. from movies, games, etc)

For those of you who want to become less addicted to your phone:

  • AppUp: tells you how time you've spent using certain apps
  • StayFree: the best app to set yourself time limits for scrolling, focus mode, and more
  • NoScroll: blocks all tiktoks, youtube shorts, and instagram reels
